Liz Phair 2023 Tour Announcement – Exile in Guyville 30th Anniversary Tour Schedule
Liz Phair is celebrating 30 years of her debut album, Exile in Guyville! The veteran singer-songwriter will kick off this anniversary tour on November 7th in El Cajon, CA. She’ll make 17 stops before wrapping up on December 3rd in Dallas, TX.
“Guyville has been in our lives for 30 years, and it is time to look at it with a fresh perspective,” Phair told Rolling Stone. “The themes that were so provocative and shocking in 1993 sometimes feel even more relevant today.” “So many people have asked me how this album relates to the Rolling Stones’ album [Exile on Main St.],” she continues. “I made myself into the girl that Mick Jagger was talking about and talking to. It is a love story, a hate story, a f*** story, but ultimately it is a story about understanding and forgiveness.”
Phair isn’t wrong when she says that her debut album has aged gracefully. Three decades ago, it was straight scandalous for a woman to talk so earnestly about love, sex, relationships, and living in a male-dominated world. Let alone sing about it. Some facilities refused to play singles like “Never Said” and “Stratford-on-Guy,” while the press had much to say about such an outspoken female artist. Needless to say, not all of it was nice.
However, Phair’s only concern was becoming a voice for other women less willing to speak up. And she’s accomplished just that and so much more since 1993. She’s a feminist icon for not only other performers but women in general, hoping to live their lives authentically and apologetically! She’s released six more albums since 1993, the latest being 2021’s Soberish, but this Liz Phair tour will celebrate the record that changed her life.
Backed by a full band, Phair will be playing Exile in Guyville in its entirety onstage, plus a few more fan favorites.
