Journey 2023 Tour Announcement – Freedom Tour Schedule

Journey is touring with Toto in 2023! An extension of their “Freedom tour,” the world-famous rock band will begin on February 4th in Allentown, PA, and make dozens of stops before concluding on April 25th in Palm Springs, CA.

The band kicked off the first leg of this Journey tour in early 2022 and quickly began selling out one arena after another. It’s not surprising, as the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers has a long list of hits to please the crowd! “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Any Way You Want It,” “Faithfully”… you may have heard of them. But here’s the thing, they have an all-new record to play from during the 2023 Journey concerts. Their fifteenth album and first in eleven years, Freedom, dropped in July 2022, and people had a lot to say about it. Rolling Stone described the record as a “mixture of classic Journey ballads, heavy rockers, and funky numbers,” and the crowds are loving live performances of new tracks like “Don’t Give Up On Us.” Journey has delivered uplifting rock hits for half a century now, and they’re only getting better in 2023. 

Fans were starting to wonder why the group waited so long to record the follow-up to 2011’s Eclipse, and the answer is pretty simple. They love to tour. Guitarist Neal Schon recently got honest with Rolling Stone about how “nobody was really interested in making new music” and “it’s very difficult to get new material played and to get people familiar with it before you go out and play it live.” They’re a performance band through and through that thrives off crowd participation, and the classic songs are key to doing so. However, things changed during the pandemic. The Journey tour with the Pretenders was canceled, and they were suddenly stuck at home, so they took the opportunity to record Freedom. The record moved along, powered by Journey songs, both old and new, and the addition of new members like drummer Narada Michael Walden and bassist Randy Jackson (yes, from American Idol). It was ready to debut by summer 2022. 

With new music, new members, and their 50th anniversary coming up in 2023, this Journey tour will be one to remember! Schon was open about his plans for this milestone musical moment, and it’s excellent news for any Journey fan. “What I’d like to see happen is not going to happen completely on our 50th, but eventually will, is An Evening With,” he said in a 2022 interview. “I see us going back into these arenas and doing pretty much what Rush was doing, playing long shows, incorporating everything we’ve ever done, and using little segments of our early, early material as segues into other songs.” “It won’t be a cheesy medley, but we’ll get musical with it,” he continued, “I’ve also appreciated bands like Zeppelin and Hendrix and the Who that weren’t locked down to anything from night to night. They were ready to allow things to flow in a very natural way. I’d like to do that and incorporate anything.”
