Jethro Tull 2023 Tour Announcement – The Seven Decades Tour
Jethro Tull is embarking on “The Seven Decades tour” in the fall of 2023, taking the British rock collective to 17 cities! They’ll kick off on August 18th in Highland Park, IL, continuing through November 4th in Albany, NY.
This Jethro Tull tour supports the band’s 23rd studio album, RökFlöte, which came out in April 2023. Translating to “rock flute” to honor frontman Ian Anderson’s favorite instrument, the project is essentially a Nordic rock opera. With elements of spirituality and destiny and divine beats to back it up, of course! Singles like “Hammer on Hammer,” “Ginnungagap,” and “The Navigators” symbolize the progressive rock that you’re used to from Jethro Tull with a philosophical twist.
“The title of this offering went through a little change or two along the way,” frontman Ian Anderson says of RökFlöte. “I started with the idea of a predominantly instrumental album for rock flute – as in rock music. When the subject material of the album presented itself, I was drawn to the term Ragnarök from Norse mythology. Their version of apocalyptic end times or Biblical Armageddon.”
“The “final showdown” scenario is ubiquitous and inherent in Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam, for example. Ragnarök translates as destiny of the Gods, the rök part meaning destiny, course, direction. With umlaut firmly in place, courtesy of the Germanic origins of Old Norse, Flute became Flöte in keeping with the spelling. With me so far? I just can’t miss the glorious opportunity for a good and legitimate umlaut.”
Destiny is something that Jethro Tull is very familiar with. Because they always knew they were meant to become the go-to group for those who love to fuse genres. Folk, hard rock, blues, jazz, or progressive? They’ve done it all since the late 1960s and have the utmost pride! Despite the name of the tour, they’ve been around for roughly five decades now. Still a major accomplishment, right? And RökFlöte is a part of Jethro Tull’s comeback era that fans have awaited for years.
Just last year, they came out with The Zealot Genre, the first Jethro Tull album in two decades. Sure, Anderson has released more than a few solo albums since then. However, he was itching to get the band back together. Songs like “Shoshan Sleeping” and “Sad City Sisters” didn’t disappoint, with fans and critics giving rave reviews. They’ll be playing both tracks on the 2023 Jethro Tull tour, along with essentials from RökFlöte, marking a new era for fans of the iconic rock group.
