Hot Mulligan is heating up your hometown on the “Choose Your Fightour Tour!” Joined by Free Throw, Just Friends, and Charmer, the emo troops will begin on April 9th in Buffalo, NY. They’ll visit fifteen cities before wrapping up on the 30th in Kansas City, MO.
After a whirlwind 2023 that included dozens of headlining shows, plus appearances at Sad Summer Fest and more, Hot Mulligan has become a name to look out for among the alternative crowd. Every 20-something member was around for the Golden Age of Emo™ and it most definitely shows in their musical mix. From the Midwest Emo elements rooted in their Michigan hometown to sing-along-worthy pop-punk and experimental math rock, you can’t go wrong with Hot Mulligan songs.
Especially on their third and latest album, Why Would I Watch. Dubbed the “best emo outing of 2023” by Paste, new tracks like “Shhhh! Golf Is On,” “No Shoes In The Coffee Shop (Or Socks),” and “Gans Media Retro Game” will hit you right in the feels. While the song titles are silly and the choruses brutally catchy, the subject matter of these numbers is far deeper than you may expect. They tackle everything from addiction and divorce to bad relationships and the woes of growing older. AKA, all the things that “elder emo’s” can relate to the most.
In fact, it’s almost a running joke in the scene that pop-punk serves up the most upbeat melodies over melancholic lyrics, and it certainly holds true for Hot Mulligan.
