First and foremost, Elf In Concert is not to be confused with Elf The Musical. While the latter is an onstage musical adaptation, the event we’re discussing is something entirely new, but equally enchanting. Elf In Concert allows you to watch the Will Ferrell classic on the big screen, following Buddy’s journey as a misunderstood human in the North Pole to find his father in New York City. The only catch? You’ll be following along with a live orchestra the entire time, adding even more oomph and exquisite sound to your favorite scenes.
The part where Buddy causes a scene in Gimbel’s when he attacks a mall Santa? It’s even more hilarious with grand instrumentals in the mix. How about the infamous snowball fight in which he shows off his throwing skills? Each snowball gets its own iconic sound effects to send chills down your spine…and not just because of the cold weather. Additionally, you’ll be even more touched by Zooey Deschanel’s rendition of “Santa Clause Is Coming To Town,” as she’ll finally have the backup she deserves.
Long story short…watching Elf is a right of passage during Christmas, and has been for the past two decades. But Debney is taking things even further for the film’s 20th anniversary. He’s written scores for dozens of other A-list movies, including Hocus Pocus and Iron Maiden, but Elf will always have a place in his heart.
