David Gilmour 2024 Tour Announcement – Luck and Strange Tour
David Gilmour is embarking on the “Luck and Strange Tour” this fall, which marks his return to music in more ways than one! Joined by a live band, the Pink Floyd guitarist is celebrating his new solo album, Luck and Strange, with his first US shows in nearly a decade. He’ll perform at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA, from October 29-31, before kicking off a weeklong residency at Madison Square Garden in New York City from November 4-10.
Luck and Strange is Gilmour’s fifth solo album and first in nine years, due for release in September. However, he’s already put out the first single, “The Piper’s Call,” a future soft rock hit that shows how his talent has aged like a fine wine. He may be almost 80 years old, but David Gilmour is more in his element than ever. And he’s thrilled to share his new project, which blends his personal and professional affairs, with his biggest fans.
Most of the lyrics on Luck and Strange were written by Gilmour’s wife, lyricist Polly Samson, while their children also gave creative input. Described as being primarily about the passage of time and inevitability of change, both of which were felt deeply while the album was made during the COVID-19 pandemic, it brought Gilmour even closer to his family and his career.
And due to the intimate nature of the project, among other reasons, Gilmour has been open about the fact that his new album (and other solo work) will be the primary focus of his upcoming tour. Don’t get us wrong, he loves being the leader of the iconic Pink Floyd. It’s the band that helped him rise to superstardom! But he’s also ready to take back the spotlight solo, and he more than deserves it.
David Gilmour’s career, spanning over five decades, has established him as a musical icon. He joined Pink Floyd in 1968, bringing his one-of-a-kind guitar style and vocal presence to the band, which became critical to the success of albums like The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. Gilmour’s solo work has also garnered significant acclaim, demonstrating his ability to evolve artistically while maintaining the ethereal quality that defines his music.
This is a new era for David Gilmour in which you witness his musical transformation over the past near- decade, while enjoying the same magical talent he’s held for half a century. It’s a win-win for all involved, and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for his fans. Get your tickets to the Luck and Strange tour today!
