City and Colour 2023 Tour Announcement – Canadian Tour Schedule
Dallas Green is heading home! City and Colour will return to its native Canada in early 2024. The folk-rock project will begin on February 6th in Victoria, BC. They’ll stop in thirteen cities before wrapping up on the 27th in Halifax, NS.
Joined by Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Swears and Ruby Waters, this City and Colour tour will be a surreal experience for all. The album that it’s based on, 2023’s The Love Still Held Me Near, began with grief but has ended with grandeur. Singles like “Underground,” “F***ed It Up,” and “Hard, Hard Time” flawlessly encapsulate Dallas Green’s hardships and triumphs over the past few years. They’re certainly a little solemn at times, but overall spectacular. And you’ll get to know the sometimes acoustic, sometimes emo artist in an entirely new setting.
“It was for me really just about finding the sheer joy in creating again,” Green told Revue about the songwriting process for his sixth album, and the first in four years. “That’s what I’m always striving for, is to find that personal fulfillment in making the art.” During the time he experienced the deaths of both his cousin and close friend-musical collaborator, along with a close call with divorce… so there was plenty of lyrical inspiration to draw from.
It’s no secret that music is Green’s life, as he’s spent years fronting not only City and Colour, but also his primary band, Alexisonfire. But he also had to separate his art from his existence, and he’s found a welcome balance on The Love Still Held Me Near. The titular track exemplifies everything that Dallas Green worked for on his latest project — a therapeutic experience that brought him back to life. He may have taken a mini-break from writing music, but Dallas Green will always have a place in any folk, post-hardcore, or pop lover’s playlist. And that’s what he wanted to remind us.
“It was like an alarm going off or something — begging to be heard and letting somebody know that I was still there, and I wasn’t going away,” Green told Dallas Observer about the titular song. “The phrase came to me, and then it ultimately made sense to call the song that. But then for me, when I title a record, I usually try to find either a song title or a line from one of the songs on the record that doesn’t just represent the song it’s from. But also encapsulates what I think the whole collection is about. And I just kept coming back to that phrase as sort of a mission statement for the entire record.”
More honest lyrics than ever, tours booked for both City and Color and Alexisonfire, and a grand return to his native Canada? It’s easy to see that 2024 will be the year of Dallas Green. Are you ready to join him on the trek of a lifetime? Get your tickets to a Dallas Green concert today.
