Bad Suns 2022 Tour Announcement – Apocalypse Whenever Tour Schedule
Bad Suns have announced the “Apocalypse Whenever tour” for fall 2022, and we can’t wait to see the indie-alternative rock trio. They’ll kick off on October 3rd in Pomona, CA, and continue through November 12th in Las Vegas, NV.
Joined by special guests Last Dinosaurs and Quarters of Change, this Bad Suns tour will be a proper tribute to their fourth album. Apocalypse Whenever had gained major praise since its January 2022 release, with singles like “Baby Blue Shades,” “When the World Was Mine,” and “Peachy” earning a permanent spot in our Spotify playlists. The cheeky song titles and sugary choruses have become a part of Bad Suns’ brand, but they branched out a bit on this new record. They incorporated disco, jazz, R&B, and West Coast pop elements into their previously mostly indie-rock sound, and people can’t get enough.
2022 marks not only one decade as a band for Bad Suns but also one of their most profound records yet. Apocalypse Whenever is a concept album occurring in a fictional world that’s half-Los Angeles (also their hometown) and half Tokyo, taking the main protagonist on a path of near-death experiences that unlocks his strangest desires and fears.
“Once I brought it down to one moment versus several moments, I saw the imagery of your life flashing before your eyes,” Bad Suns frontman Christo Bowman told The FADER about Apocalypse Whenever. “The way that the music sounded, I pictured somebody washing ashore in this sci-fi, Philip K. Dick sort of environment.” Based on both Bowman’s own experiences and the fictional world he envisioned in his head, the protagonist’s mind goes back and forth between sorrow, regret, fear, contentment, and curiosity about both the future and past. It’s safe to say that the music will do the very same for listeners — minus the whole near-death experience situation.
Bowman also elaborated on his artistic direction on Apocalypse Whenever, being unafraid to take risks and setting Bad Suns apart from the rest. “The most important thing I realized was not being afraid of being put in a box. I got to this point where the band started to sound a little bit familiar to me,” he says. “I started getting in my head about that, and I wanted to walk away from it. And then I had this feeling. I was like, well, no one does us better than us.”
In came the disco and West Coast pop elements that people can’t stop talking about on this Bad Suns album, and Bowman insists that it was a creative compromise between him and his bandmates. “It felt like we were making the third, proper Bad Suns album in my head the whole time,” he says,” adding that as soon as fellow members Gavin Bennett, Miles Morris, and Ray Libby, were back in the studio, that’s when the real magic happened. Even if you’ve listened to Apocalyse Whenever on repeat a million times since January, just wait until you see what they have up their sleeve for a Bad Suns concert!
The group has plenty to celebrate in 2022, including one of their most commercially-successful records yet and their 10th anniversary as Bad Suns. Therefore, they’re bringing their all to these concerts and can’t wait for you to join them in the crowd. Get your tickets to a Bad Suns concert today!
