The emo nostalgia continues in 2025 with AFI. The legendary alt-rock band has just announced their 2025 fall tour, set to run for over 20 dates across North America, with TR/ST joining them as support. Kicking off September 30th in Madison, WI, they’ll stop in Chicago, IL, Boston, MA, Nashville, TN, and more before wrapping up on November 5th in San Diego, CA.
The 2025 AFI tour marks one of their first since 2021’s Bodies, which was met with critical acclaim for tracks like “Looking Tragic,” “Escape From Los Angeles,” and “Tied to a Tree.” Well, except for last year’s run celebrating Sing the Sorrow’s 20th anniversary, which allowed fans to properly pay tribute to the record that started it all. Not literally, as that’s technically their 1995 debut, Answer That and Stay Fashionable….
However, Sing the Sorrow is arguably their most popular album, and the one that blurs the lines between their goth-punk roots and rising mainstream rock success. What retired emo doesn’t still blast “Girl’s Not Grey” or “Silver and Cold” between Zoom calls? While they’ve stated that they’ll never play that album in its entirety again (sadly), there’s still plenty to look forward to on the 2025 AFI tour. Namely, all the highlights from their nearly 35-year career.
AFI’s evolution from their early punk days to the chart-topping era — the one where everybody had “Miss Murder” as their MySpace song — to their newly experimental sound? It’s nothing short of spectacular, and you’ll see and hear it all on the 2025 AFI tour. Along with some new music, which fans have pondered about for years! Will it go back in time with a punk vibe, or continue with the new wave and synth pop sound that AFI has adopted in recent years? Only time well.
In an interview earlier this year, frontman Davey Havok teased that new music will be coming “once we finish this Australian tour.” While a full album might not land in the summer, he confirmed that fans can expect new material before the year’s end. Could we be in for another surprise drop, turning the classic “Love Like Winter” track into a prophecy? We sure hope so! But with this tour, AFI is making sure their dedicated fans get a taste of everything —from the early chaos of their punk origins to the emotional grandeur of their later work.
