“We feel like this album was pretty much the genesis of what is considered now R&B music,” 112 member Michael “Mike” Keith said about the debut in a past interview. “We took a chance on ourselves. We listened to Puff [P. Diddy], and he basically told us that this was going to be what R&B music is going to be 25 years later. We feel like without that, I don’t think R&B would be as prevalent.”
“I don’t think it would be as worldwide as it is now,” he continued. “I’m not saying 112 was the only reason why R&B is where it is right now, but we definitely contributed to the sound that is R&B music right now.” That legacy still rings true today. And while 112 hasn’t released an album since 2017’s Q Mike Slim Daron, their influence within the genre is stronger than ever.
