Andre 3000 is heading into his “New Blue Sun” era on a solo tour! The former Outkast member and platinum rapper is supporting his debut solo album of the same name, starting on September 4th in Big Sur, CA. He’ll make dozens of stops including Mesa, AZ, Portland, OR, Richmond, VA, and more before concluding on November 14th in Atlanta, GA.
New Blue Sun came out in late 2023, marking an end to a 17-year-musical hiatus! What has he been up to since releasing the final Outkast album, Idlewild, in 2006? Anything and everything. The music varies greatly from his “Hey Ya!” days, swapping out the fun and funk-filled beats for flute sounds and eccentric instrumentals. But of course, Andre 3000 made this vast change in musical direction work for him, and the reviews say it all.
Pitchfork describes the record as an “87-minute devotional to new age, ambient jazz, and spiritual discovery.” They also call it “beautiful, demanding, and among the most fascinating artistic left turns in recent memory”. It’s a solid descriptor of one of the most advanced musical pivots of 2024, right there alongside Post Malone going country or Ronnie Radke of Falling in Reverse doing every genre under the sun.
