Trey Kennedy is coming to your city in 2022, telling modern jokes and making social media puns on the Are You For Real? Tour. He’ll begin on January 12th in Boise, ID, and continue for several months before completing his run on April 1st in Las Vegas, NV.
“This tour feels like both a long time coming and an impossibility. I can’t believe I get to go and perform across the country after over seven years of creating internet videos in my home – it’s surreal,” Kennedy said in a statement. “I’m so proud of this show and can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
Indeed, Kennedy’s career has always lived online. Unlike older stand-up comics who got their start in hole-in-the-wall clubs, the 29-year-old made the internet his platform. He began making 6-second videos on Vine in 2013, gaining legions of supporters who followed him to Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter after Vine shut down.
In the past nine years, he’s become known for his spot-on sketches about millennials, soccer moms, and the “expectations vs. reality” aspects of social media. His content has recently taken a Gen Z turn, in which he vents about his misunderstandings as a millennial while simultaneously giving them credit for the things his generation never did. He may even go into the Vine and TikTok debate, which is quite the spiel coming from Kennedy.
The Trey Kennedy tour takes place two years after it was initially meant to take off, with the pandemic putting a very long hold on his IRL sketches.
