Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in Theater, 2021-2022 Performance Schedule
Listen, Gen Z has TikTok and Snapchat and a 100% digital world, and we love them for it. However, this generation will never know the anticipation of waiting in line for the next book in the Harry Potter series, making it even more crucial for them to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on stage.
This two-part play takes place nineteen years after the events of the final book. All your favorite characters return, while the younger generation of wizards finally gets their moment to make magic, literally. While the play originated in London’s West End, it’s now making its way to other cities – with the play returning to Broadway in early December and heading to San Francisco, CA, and Toronto, ON, in 2022.
Based on the 2016 book by JK Rowling, Cursed Child picks up exactly where Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows left off. The titular character drops his youngest son Albus off at the Hogwarts Express for his first year of wizarding school, while Harry reassures the younger Potter that being placed into Slytherin by the Sorting Hat is not the dire fate that he fears.
You’ll learn about Harry’s new life as a father and overworked employee of The Ministry of Magic, as well as his son’s harrowing journey through his first year at Hogwarts, as he struggles to make friends and make his way out of his famous father’s shadow.
Things get even more complicated when Albus crosses paths with Draco Malfoy’s son Scorpius, and they team up with a Time-Turner to prevent the death of Cedric Diggory. Those familiar with the wizarding world know that one of the most significant rules is to never mess with time… so you can imagine how well that goes.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child isn’t your typical theater production. It’s a play, not a musical, and it has four acts. Like the final Harry Potter film, the play is split into two parts, each about 2.5 hours long. While this show is undoubtedly a large time commitment, we can guarantee that it’s 100% worth it.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child seamlessly weaves in references from all seven books and films and keeps the magic of the wizarding world alive. Potterheads in the audience will wipe away tears and recognize that the beloved series will never die – unlike nearly half the main characters in the final book.
This production isn’t just an opportunity to rewatch all the Harry Potter movies from start to finish; it’s also a way to keep the magic of the wizarding world alive for people of all ages. From diehard Potterheads to casual fans and children named after the heroic Hermione Granger, the audience will be chanting spells and giving a supernatural round of applause for every show.
