Beauty and The Beast, The Musical in Theater – 2022 Performance Schedule
Many of the best Disney films have made their way onto the Broadway stage – including Aladdin and Frozen. But there’s one that started it all, and it’s Beauty and the Beast! Based on the 1991 movie of the same name, this musical is centered around a tale as old as time, pun intended. Beauty and the Beast is coming to several of your favorite cities in 2022, including Milwaukee, WI, Medford, OR, and San Bernardino, CA. These engagements are all relatively brief, so you’ll want to get your tickets quickly!
You may be familiar with the story. A beautiful bookworm named Belle is bored with her “provincial life” and craves adventure outside of her French village. She gets more than she bargained for when a mysterious creature captures her father, Maurice, and she agrees to take his place in the dungeon of a dark castle. One that happens to be inhabited by a monstrous Beast and his talking household appliances – including clock Cogsworth and candlestick Lumiere.
As Belle becomes accustomed to her new home, she becomes confused by her mixed feelings for the Beast and discovers the beauty of the magical castle. This includes an unpleasant confrontation with the Beast over a rose, which we later find is his key to becoming human again. Will he be able to fall in love with Belle, and earn her love in return, before the last petal falls and he remains a Beast forever? You can find out throughout the musical as you absorb some of your favorite Disney songs.
These include songs from the film like “Belle,” “Gaston,” “The Mob Song,” and “Beauty and the Beast,” plus a handful of new tracks. “Home” is a beautiful ballad that captures Belle’s status as a prisoner who may or may not be in love, while “If I Can’t Love Her” gives a voice to the Beast.
The Lion King is often credited with the rise of Disney stage adaptations, as it’s one of the most popular Broadway shows that still resides on the Great White Way in 2021. But did you know that Beauty and the Beast came first? It premiered on Broadway in 1994 and became a commercial success, running for thirteen years before closing in 2007.
The show has been touring around the US and UK ever since, and there’s never been a better time to see Beauty and the Beast!
