A Christmas Carol 2023 Performance Schedule
One of the greatest Christmas stories of all time is back in town! Are you ready to see A Christmas Carol? Inspired by Charles Dickens’ 1843 masterpiece and intertwined with a seasonal score by Alan Menken, the songwriter behind your favorite Disney films, this play combines history with holiday lessons for the ultimate seasonal event.
A Christmas Carol is visiting over a dozen cities in 2022, including New York, NY; Houston, TX; Denver, CO; Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; and many more! The entire country will have the chance to see Ebenezer Scrooge’s iconic nightgown up close and personal, plus the three ghosts that famously visited him on that eerie winter night.
But first, let’s talk about Scrooge’s backstory. The protagonist of the Charles Dickens novel is a selfish, grumpy man who hates Christmas and its traditions. Presents, decorations, stockings, and baking around the fireplace? He only has one thing to say about that…. “Bah, Humbug!” While the people in the town ignore his initial behavior, it eventually begins to have an unfortunate and scary effect on those around him. Desperate to help him rediscover the magic of Christmas, a series of supernatural forces soon come to his aid.
Scrooge’s old business partner Jacob Marley makes the first ghostly appearance, clad in chains that punish him for his selfish acts on Earth. Later, he’s visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future, and each one is scarier than the next. Even the most magical Alan Menken songs can’t drown out the fear of being forgotten or, worse, celebrated once you’re gone, and Scrooge soon realizes the error of his ways and lack of appreciation for the holidays.
While it can be a little scary, A Christmas Carol has all the holiday lessons you’ll want your kids, parents, or even friends to know. Love and selflessness can go a long way, and Christmas isn’t about the things but rather the bonds and familial beauty all around you! This timeless classic comes to town only once a year, so don’t miss your chance to see A Christmas Carol!
