Sturgill Simpson 2024 Tour Announcement – Why Not? Tour Schedule
Sturgill Simpson, or shall we say, Johnny Blue Skies, is back! The country singer has returned with a new album, name, and trek, aptly called the “Why Not? Tour.” He’ll kick off on September 14th in Los Angeles, CA, continuing through November 23rd in Boston, MA. Simpson will also play music festivals like Outside Lands and Austin City Limits this fall.
This will be the first Sturgill Simpson tour in four years…well, sort of. He’s now adopted the moniker of Johnny Blue Skies, per a press release. And he’ll release a new album under the name, called Passage du Desir, on July 12th through his independent label. Featuring eight new songs including “Mint Tea,” “If the Sun Never Rises Again,” and “Swamp of Sadness,” nobody is quite sure what to expect from the reborn country music legend.
Sturgill Simpson is iconic in the genre, there’s no doubt about it. So much so, that the GRAMMY and Americana Music Award winner has released five critically-acclaimed albums. Each one seemingly better than the last. And while we’ll always hold his older hits, like “You Can Have the Crown,” “Breakers Roar,” and “Sing Along,” dear in our hearts, we’re also excited to see what Johnny Blue Skies is cooking up on this tour and album.
Will be lean more into bluegrass or hard rock or bring on some special collaborators? We have no idea, and that’s just a part of the fun with his new alias. Johnny Blue Skies knows what his fans want — a series of soft and soul-stirring country songs — and we have no doubt he’ll deliver. Additionally, he’s also celebrating the tenth anniversary of Simpson’s beloved sophomore album, Metamodern Sounds in Country Music.
