Primus 2021 Tour Announcement – A Tribute to Kings Tour Schedule
Primus is currently on their “A Tribute to Kings” tour, and there’s still time to see the funk-metal group! Their next concert occurs on September 22nd in Sterling Heights, MI, while the tour goes on through October 24th in Phoenix, AZ.
“Finally, the clouds are parting, the planets are aligning, the dough is rising … whatever metaphor floats your preverbal boat, Primus is going on tour again,” singer Les Claypool said in an April 2021 statement. “We were poised and ready for a massive, bent-rock extravaganza when the gremlins of Covid came and yanked the rug out from under us all.”
“After my first season off in 30-some-odd years,” he continued, “I’m very anxious and excited to stand in front of the microphone with my four-string piece of furniture and belt out some girthy ditties to sweaty throngs of punters.” It’s a strange tour statement unlike any you’ve seen, but in what world is Primus like other musicians? The trio makes everything their own – from their funk-metal sound to the specially-designed concert posters and old-timey announcements.
The Primus Wikipedia page says that the group is “characterized by its irreverent, quirky approach to music,” and it’s an understatement. Since 1984, the California-bred band has released nine studio albums that blend funk and metal with progressive rock and occasional pop.
They’ve undergone significant lineup changes, played hundreds of sold-out shows, and even recorded the original theme song for the TV show South Park… and that doesn’t even scratch the surface of Primus’s weirdness. This comes out in their live shows, which often feature a mosh-pit that’s half hardcore thrashing and half groovy dancing. What else can you expect from the best funk-metal band in the business?
To answer that question, the answer is “killer performances of the best Primus songs from the last thirty-seven years. You can expect to hear “Too Many Puppies,” “John the FIsherman,” “Tommy the Cat,” and more on the A Tribute to Kings tour, and we’re still holding out hope for extra Primus weirdness around Halloween.
