Spoon 2022 Tour Announcement – Lucifer on the Sofa Tour Schedule
Spoon is currently touring in support of their tenth album, Lucifer on the Sofa. The trek began on February 8th in Santa Ana, Calif., three days before the record was released, and plans to end on June 4th in Phoenix, AZ.
“It’s the sound of classic rock as written by a guy who never did get Eric Clapton,” Spoon frontman Britt Daniel said in a statement about the new record. Indeed, the new Spoon record experiments with more classic style than their typical blend of indie and art rock, and it’s clearly working for them. Lucifer on the Sofa is the group’s 10th studio effort and the first to be recorded in their hometown of Austin in more than a decade, and critics are rightfully obsessed.
Brooklyn Vegan says that the band “still has the spark” after nearly three decades together. Entertainment Weekly gave the record an A- grade and stated that Spoon “faced their biggest demon yet, but still found the groove.” And in what could be the greatest compliment yet, Rolling Stone calls Lucifer on the Sofa the group’s “best record ever” and calls Spoon the “most reliable great American rock band of the past 25 years.“
It’s quite a statement from a publication that writes about every rock band on the planet, but Rolling Stone is hardly exaggerating. Spoon has maintained their indie aesthetic since 1993, even as they’ve sold out stadiums and gained legions of fans. Even with the new record taking on a blue classic rock and blues-inspired edge, you’ll still get the same Spoon you know and love on the upcoming tour.
“We wanted to make a rock ‘n’ roll record, a great rock ‘n’ roll record,” Britt Daniel said about Lucifer on the Sofa.. “I just don’t feel like there’s enough great rock ‘n’ roll records being made these days.” He also stated that they used fellow Texas rockers ZZ Top as inspiration, which is evident in new songs like “Held” and “The Hardest Cut.” Expect to hear these tracks played live on the Spoon tour, along with other classics that you’ve loved for nearly thirty years.
