Daddy Yankee 2022 Tour Announcement – La Ultima Vuelta World Tour Schedule
Daddy Yankee has announced dates for his farewell trek, dubbed the La Ultima Vuelta World Tour. The reggaeton giant kicks off performances on August 10th in Portland, OR, and visits 22 cities before the last Daddy Yankee concert ever on September 20th in New York, NY.
It’s difficult to imagine a music world without Daddy Yankee, called the “King of Reggaeton,” for three decades. And rightfully so, since it’s widely accepted that he coined the term “reggaeton” in the first place to describe the then-niche musical genre. Not anymore! The singer, born Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, has released the most incredible reggaeton ragers and paved the way for younger artists after him, and he’s definitely earned a break. Of course, he’s going out with a bang on the farewell Daddy Yankee tour.
Ayala released his eighth and final album, Legendaddy, in March 2022. Fans and critics loved it, and it’s a bittersweet farewell to one of the most prominent artists in the world. Even so, the singer took the time to explain his decision in a YouTube video.
“This career has been a marathon,” Ayala said, addressing his fans directly in Spanish. “I finally see the end goal. Now I’m going to enjoy with all of you what you’ve given me. People say I made this genre global, but it is you who gave me the keys to open the doors and make this genre the biggest in the world.
He also discussed his impact on younger generations, not just the 20-something reggaeton artists but his hometown heroes. “In the barrios, where we grew up, most of us wanted to be drug dealers. Today, I go to barrios and caserios, and the majority want to be artists, and that means a lot to me.”
